The Niger Delta Youth Congress (NDYC) has launched a scathing attack on former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, following his recent remarks on Channels Television criticizing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
In a strongly worded statement signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade Israel Uwejeyan, the NDYC described El-Rufai’s comments as “reckless, baseless, and a desperate attempt by a disgraced politician to remain relevant.”
The group accused El-Rufai of being “a man politically sidelined and rejected,” whose failure to secure ministerial clearance under the current administration has left him “clutching at straws.”
“El-Rufai’s latest outburst is nothing but the bitter wailing of a man rejected by his own shadow, a politician whose credibility has been shredded by his past indiscretions,” the statement read.
According to the NDYC, the former governor’s track record is littered with controversies, divisive utterances, and policies that left trails of tension during his years in office. The group alleged that he has “for over two decades mastered the dark art of political grandstanding, using incendiary statements to whip up sentiments while offering no constructive solutions.”
The youth body praised the leadership of National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, for what it described as “tangible security gains,” including the neutralization of terror bases, elimination of notorious bandit leaders, and the reclaiming of communities once abandoned due to insecurity.
“For El-Rufai to trivialize these realities with careless soundbites is to dance on the graves of our fallen heroes,” NDYC declared.
The group further insisted that El-Rufai’s inability to pass ministerial screening was due to what it called his “baggage of divisive utterances, questionable antecedents, and arrogant disposition.”
Warning El-Rufai against undermining national security “for personal vendettas,” NDYC stated that “the days when he could throw inflammatory bombs into the national space and walk away unchallenged are gone. Nigeria is wiser, and Nigerians are watching.”
Reaffirming its support for the Tinubu administration and the NSA, the group urged Nigerians to rally behind ongoing security efforts and disregard what it termed as the “idle rants of a rejected politician seeking attention.”
Concluding, NDYC declared:
“El-Rufai is yesterday’s mistake, not tomorrow’s promise. Nigeria has moved beyond his divisive gimmicks, and no amount of political mischief will derail the resolve of this administration to secure our nation.”
